I can't believe I almost forgot the pic of the week. It's so hard to choose which picture to use now, they're all just so cute. You have to admit, he is the cutest baby in the world (go on, admit it, I won't tell anyone you think he's cuter than yours).
Ike's now rolling over with great skill from his back to his belly, but only over his right shoulder. He's still working on his left, and it seems like his belly to back skeels were short-lived. I haven't seen him go from belly to back in more than a week (though he has done it when I wasn't looking). He's definitely still trying to work it out, though. Babies aren't expected to do the belly to back thing until much later (our pediatrician said like four or five months), so he's got plenty of time.
He's adding to his vocabulary every day. It seems like a new sound comes out of his mouth at least once a week, and he's starting to try to imitate Joe and me. He's not consistent with the imitation, but you can tell he's watching us.
The one big thing that happened recently, besides the rolling over, was Ike's first shots. Talk about excruciating (for all three of us). He was laying on the table, smiling and talking to the nurse, then she stuck him and his poor little face just crumpled. He started screaming, and didn't stop until we were at the car. He fell asleep for a couple hours, and when he woke up, he had a fever and just cried and cried. After we gave him some baby tylenol, he fell asleep, but I held him for about five hours straight because every time he woke up he'd start screaming until he saw he was being held, then he'd fall asleep again. His legs swelled up like big old sausages, and were tender the rest of the night.
As I write this, I'm realizing how non-articulate I've become. I thought it was a good story, but that's pretty much all I've got to write about. I keep starting to write sentences, then deleting them because they're lame. I wonder if that's because I haven't been writing much since Ike was born and I'm out of practice, or because my brain is permanently changed (damaged?) from adding a kid to its stress level or what. I guess we'll have to see how it goes, as I write more.
