Yesterday was Ike's first birthday and he gave me a present by sleeping most of the day so I could actually get some work done. It's funny, I'm far more excited about his birthday than I've ever been about any of mine. (Well, I can't remember my third birthday. Maybe that was more exciting for me.)
It's almost like it's as much Joe's and my birthday as it is Ike's. We have a whole year of this parenting thing under our belts now that we can celebrate. We got this little human through all the risks of SIDS, premature birth, plagiocephaly (not as bad as it sounds), first teeth, first ingrown toenail, first smile, first black eye (courtesy of two wrestling dogs, last week), and first hugs ... to name a few. And the fun is just beginning.
Not uncoincidentally, I found my second gray hair yesterday. I found the first on my birthday last year. I suppose if I find one on my birthday and one on Ike's every year, it won't be too bad ... I wonder if the number of gray hairs goes up exponentially with the number of birthdays involved?
