I thought I'd write about my first bridesmaid experience this time, but we haven't gotten the pictures developed yet, and I think illustrations are essential. So, I'll update everyone on the Donger's well-being (I guess that's what this whole blog is really about, after all).
We had the level 2 ultrasound today and, to cut to the chase, everything is fine. He weighs in at 3 pounds now. Doesn't it seem like just last week that I was writing about how he was the size of a lime? This puts him at the 45th percentile, if the due date is May 4, which would mean he'll come out at about 7-8 pounds. I think the real question is, if the due date is actually May 15, will he gain 2 extra pounds in those two weeks? At this point, it's just an estimation, and not all that accurate, so we'll just have to wait and see.
His heart, brain, other organs, all look good. We actually got to see the four chambers of his heart, which was cool. And it was pumping away at 154 bpm, also good and normal. The amniotic fluid, which was on the high side before, and the reason for this second test, appears to have resolved, just like my doctor said it would. It measured at 21 (21 what? fluid ounces? cubic centimeters? cubic inches? I don't know). The doctor said that 25 would be the bottom end of what they'd consider abnormal, so 21 is "generous, but not excessive." So, no worries on that point. Oh, and he's breech right now, which means his head is up by my ribs and his feet are in my pelvis. This isn't good news for a normal delivery—usually you can't deliver a baby feet first, and would need a c-section. But he has plenty of time and space to move, and by the 32nd or 33rd week he should be in the right position. Sometimes they move even later than that, so there's no telling what will happen.
We also got some more pictures. The one I posted below is one of the perks of having an abnormal first ultrasound—they send you in for a more advanced one. So, the machine they used this time has the ability to capture pictures in 4D, which makes it look like a real photo. Unfortunately, the Donger was being stubborn and wouldn't move his hand away from his face, so we only got one decent shot (we also now have evidence of his gender, which the tech was kind enough to highlight with an arrow—I'll post that after I'm done with this). He's actually holding the umbilical cord in front of his face. Again, his stubbornness comes through. I believe we'll have our hands full. Also, doesn't he look like Joe? He's got his nose and lips. It's just amazing that we actually have an idea now of what this little guy is going to look like. You can almost see his personality forming.
So, no more worries, at least for now. Everything looks a-ok.
Belly button update: Since I can't actually see my belly button anymore, I have to sort of contort myself to report on it. It's still not a full outie, but it's definitely not an innie anymore. It's got sort of a hood over it. The top seems to have popped out, but the bottom is still a little puckered. It appears that I'm stuck at mutant stage (sort of the story of my whole pregnancy, I think).
